SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ - Newton Medical Center, serving the residents of Sussex and Warren counties in New Jersey, as well as Pike County, Pa., dedicated the Romano Conference and Education Center at the hospital on Friday, September 27.

The event recognized the generosity of the Romano family, owners of seven full-service ShopRite supermarkets in northwestern New Jersey, who practice the Company’s business philosophy of being Partners in Caring for neighbors’ families, homes and communities.

The family’s support of Newton Medical Center, a member of Atlantic Health System, the community-based health care provider dedicated to providing high quality, innovative services, is in alignment with RoNetco Supermarkets’ and the Romano family’s core values. “We care about people and what better way to reach others than through the local hospital which serves the needs of many,” says Dominick V. Romano, Chairman of the Board.

George Morville, a trustee of the Newton Medical Center Foundation, thanked the Romano family for taking a leadership role and motivating fundraising for the hospital in addition to its generous philanthropy.

“The most important thanks we offer today is for a philosophy of service above self, leading by example and consistently teaching the benefits of philanthropy and generosity from a truly incredible family that continues to provide endless support on many levels,” Morville said.

The Conference and Education Center, serves as a site for community events, support groups and educational services, and as well as an environment of professional development for physicians, nurses and staff. Just this year, the conference center has been used to host:

  • A work group of health care professionals from hospitals and health centers throughout the country, including Atlantic Health System, focused on reducing sepsis mortality in the United States
  • The launch in Sussex County of the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Prevention Study-3, a nationwide effort to help researchers better understand the genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that cause or prevent cancer
  • A networking event by the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization for local health care providers to learn more about  providing collaborative care for the residents in the community
