WEST ORANGE, NJ - News reports are claiming that Muhammed Ali Brown, who was arrested in West Orange on July 18, is a reported terrorist. The claim came from a Q13 Fox news video that as of Thursday was still available on You Tube.
In an article dated July 23, Ryan Mauro of The Clarion Project states that Q13 FOX News reported that Brown was "a radical Muslim and received jihadist training in California in April."
Mauro continued, "It is unclear who trained Brown, where it took place and what it consisted of. All that is publicly known about his ideological path is that he is accused of the premeditated murder of two homosexuals on June 1."
Mauro, who is the ClarionProject.org’s National Security Analyst, is an expert on counterterrorism and Islamic extremism. The Clarion Project, founded in 2006, describes itself as "an independently funded, non-profit organization dedicated to exposing the dangers of Islamic extremism while providing a platform for the voices of moderation and promoting grassroots activism."
According to FOX News, Brown connected with the two young men using the phone app Grindr, which uses GPS coordinates to facilitate meetings between homosexuals. The victims, Ahmed Said and Dwone Anderson-Young, left a club with Brown, who allegedly executed them with a 9mm gun.
Brown, formerly from East Orange, was apprehended by the West Orange Police Department near the Crest Ridge Apartments located at 200 Mt. Pleasant Avenue on July 18.
A call by TAP into West Orange to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office for more details on the arrest was not returned.
In addition to the double homicide, Brown was also wanted for an armed carjacking in Point Pleasant on June 29, and another possible homicide in Seattle, the details of which have not been confirmed.
