LIVINGSTON, NJ - It is almost the end of the school year, but Livingston Public Schools (LPS) still has a lot on the agenda. Below are some recent updates from LPS and some upcoming community events.

BOE Dates

June 16: Next BOE Meeting: The Livingston Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m., at Livingston High School.

July 28: Nominating Petition to Serve on the School Board is Due by 7/28: Prospective candidates must file a nominating petition by July 28 with the Office of the Essex County Clerk. Email Joann Goldberg, jgoldberg@livingston.org, administrative assistant to the LPS business administrator, to receive a copy of the official county petition form. The election is Tuesday, November 4.

School Information

Applications for Subscription Busing are Due June 30: Subscription busing is available, on a lottery basis, for LPS students who are not eligible for free busing. Applications are due June 30. Click HERE for the application.

Safety Town Summer Kindergarten Readiness Program: This is a summer program for preschoolers to help them get ready for kindergarten. A small town is set up with streets, crosswalks, streetlights, stop signs and buildings. Children are taught how to cross the streets, be safe on school buses, and walk to school. The two-week session, for children ages 5 and 6, will be held from at 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, August 4 to Friday, August 15. Cost is $50 per child. Kindergarten Orientations: Elementary schools are hosting orientation programs for some of Livingston’s newest learners—the Class of 2027. Find the schedule for kindergarten meetings, by clicking HERE.

Community Events

June 7: Live Telethon and Celebration of the LHS Television Program: The Livingston High School TV Studio is celebrating 30 years of teaching and producing high school television with a LIVE 13-hour fundraising telethon. The show will be on Saturday, June 7, from 11 a.m. until midnight, on Comcast 34 and FiOS 26 and 28, and live streamed on your computer and mobile device.

Tony-nominated actress and Livingston alum (’95) Leslie Kritzer (Hairspray, Legally Blonde, A Catered Affair) will serve as a host. She recently recalled her LHS years in her acclaimed one-woman show, “A Beautiful Disaster.”

The telethon will include vintage film clips, including Tony winner Nikki M. James (’99), actor Adam Pally (’00), filmmaker Rich Tanne (’03), sportscaster Bruce Beck (’74), actor Jason Alexander (’77), with segments featuring bands, celebrity guests, best programs, and more. June 7: Late Spring Electronic Recycling and Paper Shredding Event: Get rid of your high-tech trash at Livingston's Late Spring Electronic Recycling and Paper Shredding event on Saturday, June 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot behind the Community Center, 204 Hillside Ave. Items that will be accepted include VCRs, TVs, computers, toasters, vacuums, and cables. Paper shredding will be done on site. There is a five-box maximum for paper to be shredded. Click HERE for details.

June 8: Meredith Prescott (LHS Class of ’09) is holding the "Pump It Up For Platelets!" 5K Walk/Run at the Oval on Sunday, June 8. Learn more by clicking HERE.

June 8: Bike Livingston: On Sunday, June 8, the public is invited to participate in a family-oriented bike tour through some of Livingston’s beautiful neighborhoods. The event is free, but pre-registration is recommended. Learn more by clicking HERE.

June 8: The India Fest will be held on Sunday, June 8, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the West Essex YMCA. This colorful cultural celebration will feature Indian food, dance and music. More information at www.SanskritiofNJ.org.



June 12: Motivational Speaker Coming to LPS: Motivational speaker Scott Chesney will be in Livingston for a program for students and parents at 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, June 12, at Heritage Middle School. The Livingston Municipal Alliance Committee (LMAC), in partnership with Livingston Public Schools, is presenting this special event.

Chesney encourages students to live life to their fullest. He shares his own life adventures, traveling the world, sky diving and carrying the Olympic torch, to name just a few, despite living life with paralysis since the age of 15 from a rare spinal disease. Chesney has spoken to more than 1 million children and teens in 38 countries. He grew up in Verona, NJ, and is a graduate of Seton Hall University.

June 14: Learn what Cub Scouting is all about. On Saturday, June 14, Cub Scout Pack 59 will be hosting a barbecue for families in Livingston with boys in elementary school. All Month: The Friends of the Livingston Library is seeking donations of books for children, young readers, and young adults (teens). This is an opportunity to give books a new life and help Friends raise money for the library. Books should be in good, saleable condition. Donations may be brought to the Friends Desk anytime the Library is open. A tax-receipt is available from the Help Desk. Friends is also accepting donations of books for adults (fiction and non-fiction) as well as books on CD, CDs, and DVDs. No magazines or text books, please.
