FAIRFIELD, NJ - At the Sept. 9 meeting of the Fairfield governing body, the latest addition to Fairfield’s Police Department, Officer Brad Ahern, was sworn in by Mayor James Gasparini; he will be a probationary police officer for the next two to three months under Chief Charles Voelker.
“Tonight it’s our pleasure to swear in another new officer to the Fairfield family,” commented the mayor before officially swearing in Ahern.

The new officer addressed the audience saying:
I just want to say it’s a pleasure to be up here and be sworn in officially as a police officer. It’s been a dream of mine since I was a kid. I just want to thank my brother and my mom for the support through all I’ve been through - academy, school and life in general.
I want to thank the other officers who showed up, I appreciate you guys coming out. To the mayor and council as well, for giving me this opportunity to be a police officer in your town, you can trust me, I’ll do right by you guys. I want to thank the chief as well for having faith in me being a police officer in this town. I won’t let you guys down, thank you.

The police chief was present for the swearing in, as was Ahern’s mother and brother. Before he begins patrolling the streets of Fairfield on his own, the new officer will complete an approximate two to three month field training program with a veteran Fairfield police officer.
Gasparini told the audience that two other officers that evening were also given conditional offers of employment.
