WESTFIELD, NJ — Drive by 751 Central Ave. and you can’t miss the new Rainbow Academy of Westfield, the daycare center under construction there. Starting in October the school, which will have nine classrooms, will serve up to 175 children ages six weeks through kindergarten.

“I want to give kids a solid foundation for moving forward,” said Franchise Owner Sue Romano, who lives in Scotch Plains three blocks from where she grew up. Once a computer consultant in New York, Romano decided to make a career change with the franchise.

“I love kids. I always have,” said Romano, who is getting her CDA. “I thought, ‘What better thing could I do than starting a day care?’”

Romano is particularly impressed with the company’s “Circle of Care” philosophy in which the needs of parents are considered as important as the care and education of their children. She loves that Rainbow Academy makes use of technology to keep parents in the loop, such as “parent view” cameras in each classroom that allow parents to check in on their kids anytime from anywhere.

“I’m going to make it my business to bring more new experiences to the kids,” said Romano. Among the experiences that she hopes to include are expert guests with live animals, art enrichment, Spanish, sign language, yoga, tumbling, martial arts, computers and music.

This is the second Rainbow Academy to open in Union County—the other is in Cranford.

“We actually did a study and we looked at the demographics or the area and there’s definitely a need for more daycares,” said Romano.

Pricing “will definitely be competitive,” she said. “I’m a working parent myself, and I want to the cost to be realistic.”

Currently, a discount is being offered for parents who enroll their children during construction. For more information, call 1-866-470-0262, email sromano@rainbowacademy.com or visit www.rainbowacademy.com.
