NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – The head boys’ soccer coach at New Providence High School has resigned from his position, effective immediately.

Ted Niedzielski, who just completed his fifth season at the helm of the Pioneers’ boys soccer program, submitted an official letter of resignation to the Board of Education at its monthly meeting on Thursday, according to Board Secretary James Testa.

Niedzielski is not a full-time employee of the district, only a seasonal head coach.

Testa had no comment on the situation, other than that the board accepted Niedzielski’s resignation.

Niedzielski led New Providence into the sectional quarterfinals of the state playoffs this year, before losing to top-seeded Brearley on Nov. 8. The Pioneers finished their season at 5-10-1, two more victories than their 2012 total.

Last week, Niedzielski, of Summit, appeared on the New Providence Police Blotter for an incident with police on Nov. 12. According to the Detective Bureau, he was charged with operating a vehicle while his license was expired and operating an uninsured vehicle.

The passenger in the vehicle, William S. Kretschmer, of New Providence, was arrested for active warrants in Newark and Clinton. During the arrest, Krretchmer was charged with possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest. He was later released pending a court date.

It is not known whether or not this incident was a factor in Niedzielski’s resignation.
