Thirteen teenagers from New Providence appeared in “Twelve Angry Jurors,” the first in a series of a teen play readings at MONDO in Summit.

Performed last Friday, August 1st, the play is based on “Twelve Angry Men,” a play by Reginald Rose adapted from his 1954 teleplay of the same title for the CBS Studio One anthology television series, and depicts a jury deliberating on a homicide trial.  The story begins after closing arguments have been presented in the homicide case, as the judge is giving his instructions to the jury.  At the onset, they have a near-unanimous decision of guilty, with a single dissenter of not-guilty, who throughout the play sows a seed of reasonable doubt.

The event was produced and directed by Theresa Turner, a director and theatre educator from New Providence as part of a new Teen Play Reading Series, which will give local teenagers an opportunity to perform plays relevant to our times. Says Tuner, “developing this play reading medium is a great opportunity for kids who are interested in theatre but are busy in sports or other pursuits and cannot commit to a full play schedule”.
