NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The New Providence Senior Citizens Center hosted the Senior Health Fair on Wednesday. The New Providence Health Department and the center itself sponsored the event, and the Union County Community Development Grant provided the funds.
More than 150 seniors attended the fair, where 38 vendors advised attendees on nutrition, assisted living and other medical concerns. Attendees could also receive free health services, such as blood pressure, blood chemistry, and hearing screenings. Event organizer Janice Gironda, R.N., P.H.N., said, “It’s all for preventative health, to try to pick up any health-related problems.”
Senior Center Coordinator Peggy Brodeur, the event organizer, spoke about how the vendors can assist seniors in other ways. “It also helps in the aging process," she said. "There are different things here that can guide them through the many things along the way. There are places here for them to live and socialize.”
Attendees enjoyed fruit, bagels, juice and coffee. Brandywine Senior Living, ManorCare Health Services and Juniper Village donated the fruit, and the New Providence Lions Club donated the bagels.
After the fair, attendees lunched on pizza and salad, also donated by the New Providence Lions Club.
“It’s one of the best events in New Providence,” said Dr. Robert T. Robinson, D.D.S., who participated in the fair.
