NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The New Providence Presbyterian Church spent the weekend celebrating its 275th anniversary.

The celebration kicked off on Friday night with the band Manifest and DJ Maj, performing for a crowd of about 250 young teenagers.

Saturday's festivities included A Gospel Illusionists and an evening concert. About 200 town’s people and church parishioners attended the second day of family fun events on Saturday afternoon despite the rain.

A Gospel Illusionists David and Teesha Laflin preformed under a large tent in the church’s parking lot, where all of the events took place.

“It is a great celebration and we have a great congregation,” says Rick Clark, the programming director for the events.

Following the daytime events was a concert for all ages, with Starfield and JJ Heller. The church pre-sold about 640 tickets for the event.

Sunday worship concluded the weekend's festivities.

Clark commented that the event is not only good for the church, but the town as well, given the church’s strong connection to the community.

In 1759, the church’s balcony fell during a crowded Sunday worship. The town’s people considered it an act of “Divine Providence” that no one was seriously injured in the accident and changed the name of the town from Turkey Town to New Providence.
