09-19-2012- Patrolman Joseph DiParisi charged Clifford C. Gaschler, age 20, of Chatham with driving while suspended after a license plate inquiry revealed the violation.

09-20-2012- Patrolman Joseph DiParisi charged Johanna Agudelo, age 31, of Summit with driving while suspended after her vehicle was stopped for speeding.  She was given a warning for speeding and issued a summons for having an expired insurance card.

09-22-2012- Patrolman Andrew Diamond charged Manuela M. Lliguicota, age 31, of Newark with driving while suspended after her vehicle was stopped for having tinted windows.

09-25-2012- Corporal Steven Opalewski charged Karla Tejada Peraza, age 20, with allowing the operation of an uninsured vehicle after the vehicle was stopped for fictitious plates and no side view mirrors. 

09-26-2012- A resident of Salem Road reported that she was a target of the “Grandma Scam”.  A male called telling the resident that her grandson was arrested for driving while intoxicated and needed $1,900.00 to be sent to pay for his court costs.  When the resident began questioning the caller, the caller became irate, and had her call a different phone number.  He indicated that the phone number was to the Public Defender.  When the resident spoke to the “Public Defender” and began questioning how legitimate the situation was, this man became irate too and hung up on her.  The New Providence Police Department again urges residents to remain diligent about scams like these and to always confirm the story is true before any money is transferred.  Residents are encouraged to contact the police department if you have been a victim of a scam or have any questions about these types of scams.

09-29-2012- Patrolman Daniel Nozza arrested Kyle A. Smith, age 24, of New Providence for driving while intoxicated. The arrest occurred after Mr. Smith crashed his vehicle into a concrete barrier at  a  borough gas station in view of Patrolman Nozza.  Mr. Smith drove from the scene and eventually stopped for Patrolman Nozza several side streets down the road from the initial crash.  Mr. Smith was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to breath tests, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, failure to keep right, and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.  Mr. Smith was released to a family member pending a court date.

10-01-2012- Sergeant Justine Kennedy charged Shontea M. Meyers, age 29, of Belleville with operating a vehicle without insurance after she was stopped for using a cell phone without a hands-free device.  She was also charged with operating an unregistered vehicle.

10-02-2012- Patrolman Andrew Diamond arrested Joshua D. Rogoff, age 35, of Staten Island, New York for possession of less then fifty grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of CDS in a motor vehicle after his vehicle was stopped for speeding.  He was charged with careless driving and released pending a court at the New Providence Municipal Court.

10-02-2012- Detective Donald Sretenovic arrested Kimberly A. Coffey, age 44, of Metuchen for attempting to obtain CDS by fraud after she called a Borough pharmacy and attempted to fill a prescription.  Ms. Coffey called the pharmacy identifying herself as an employee of a doctor in East Brunswick.  The pharmacy contacted the police department when Ms. Coffey came to pick up the prescription after the pharmacist confirmed with the doctor that the prescription was fraudulent.  Ms. Coffey was arrested and released pending a court date.
