8-27-2013 – Detective Stephen Drown charged Ryan Kitson, 24, of New Providence with burglary and theft. The charges stem from a South Street business reporting that they observed that $270 was stolen from their cash register located in a back office. Upon reviewing their surveillance system, they observed Mr. Kitson enter the business on his hands and knees through an open door at approximately 6:15 a.m.. They also observed that Mr. Kitson had left his personal wallet next to the cash register he stole the money from. In the wallet was identification cards displaying Mr. Kitson’s name. An accomplice blocked the view of the front door to the business with a vehicle and distracted the lone employee that was outside the business. Proceeds from the theft have not been recovered at this time. Charges are pending for the other individual involved that has been identified.
8-30-2013 – Patrolman David Rodriguez charged Stephanie Cianflone, 28, of Bridgewater with possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of hypodermic needles. The charges stem from Patrolman Rodriguez observing the vehicle she was operating pull into a Mountain Avenue business while the business was closed. A license plate inquiry returned a result that the registered owner’s license was suspended. Patrolman Rodriguez conducted a motor vehicle stop on Mountain Avenue with the vehicle. As the driver was retrieving her credentials, Patrolman Rodriguez observed hypodermic needles, and she quickly tried to conceal them. As she was being placed under arrest, several wax folds were found clenched in her hand believed to contain heroin. She was also issued a summons for driving while suspended and driving an uninsured motor vehicle. She was released with a pending court date.
8-31-2013 – Patrolman Joseph DiParisi arrested Alexis Mongiello, 20, of New Providence on an outstanding warrant out of Mountainside Municipal Court. She was turned over to the Mountainside Police Department.
8-31-2013 – A High Street resident reported that over $600 of jewelry was stolen from her bedroom between July 20 and Aug. 31. The resident discovered that the jewelry was sold to a local jeweler by individuals known to her. Detectives are investigating this report.
9-1-2013 – A Penwood Drive resident reported that she was the victim of a phone scam. She stated that she received a phone call from someone asking her to participate in a government survey. She was told if she passed the survey, she would win a trip to the Bahamas. She was later contacted by someone indicating that she had won the cruise and would need to pay the taxes for the cruise. She was also advised she could pay to have an upgraded trip. After giving the individuals her credit card information to pay the taxes and the upgraded trip, she believed she was scammed and reported the incident to the police department. Detectives are investigating this incident.
9-3-2013 – Detective Stephen Drown charged Justin Bower, 20, of Watchung with theft by deception and issuing bad checks. The charges stem from a report from a Springfield Avenue restaurant stating that Mr. Bower was issuing checks to their business from a closed banking account. Mr. Bower was served his charges at the Morris County Jail.
