New Providence High School Starts off Season with Fall Kick-Off BBQ

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The New Providence Athletic Booster Club hosted its annual Fall Kick-Off Barbecue for all student athletes, cheerleaders, band members and their families on Wednesday, Aug. 28. The clouds began to clear and the rain held off in time to allow the Pioneers to set up for their celebration to start the new school year.
The night was a team effort. All hands were on deck to make sure the event was successful. Football coach Joe Carollo and the Pioneer football team helped with setup and clean up. Soccer coach Ted Niedzielski and the boys soccer team helped with clean up at the end of the night. Dessert was baked and provided by the NPHS Cheerleaders, and the NPHS Marching Band. Many volunteers from the NPHS ABC and Pioneer Bandwagon were on hand to help set up, cook, serve and clean up.
The event was organized by Athletic Director Robert Harmer along with the New Providence High School Athletic Booster Club. All coaches were invited to attend and they were introduced along with their senior captains for the season. They welcomed everyone and wished all teams a great season and success throughout the year.
A special introduction was made for the new NPHS mascot, the Pioneer, which will be making special appearances throughout the year at different sporting events generating. Rich and Dawn Sherman, and their business Party Fair in Rockaway, helped the NPHS Athletic Booster Club find and obtain the new mascot uniform.
Michael Niedziejko and the New Providence High School Marching Band performed and the NPHS Cheerleaders kicked off the season with their routines.
The following businesses donated their time and products/services to the Fall Kick-Off BBQ: Paul Neuwirth of Taylor Rental, Berkeley Heights; Fran from Friendly’s Restaurant in New Providence; and CVS of New Providence. Cheryl Conklin and Cathy Smallwood donated a portion of their Mary Kay sales to the customer’s choice of either the NPHS Athletic Booster Club or the Pioneer Bandwagon.
The New Providence High School Athletic Booster club also extends special thanks to Dr. Miceli and the New Providence Board of Education for their support and assistance to the NPHS ABC and NPHS Athletic sports programs.
New Providence High School Athletic Booster Club President Laurie Barletta said, “Our Fall Kick-Off BBQ has become a great tradition over the years. It’s such a wonderful start to our season. A great way to bring our sports teams, band, coaches and parents together to kick off the season.”
