NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - After nearly three years of the A&P on Central Avenue being closed, the vacancy could soon become filled. On Feb.19, the New Providence Board of Adjustment will hold a public hearing regarding the opening of a Fitness Factory in that location.
According to Councilman Gary Kapner, at a zoning board meeting in September, a lawyer for the ownership of the shopping center was searching for what the board of adjustment would allow and not allow. Kapner said there was a discussion about a gym, but nothing came to fruition until recently when they submitted a proposal to the borough in January.
Mandelbaum & Krupnick, LLC is the organization applying for the space at 498 Central Avenue, Block 222, Lot 1, C1 and it is a Specialty Commercial District. They are asking for permission to use 17,000 square feet and operate a full-service high-end health club. It will be outfitted with first-class amenities and high-end equipment and will offer group fitness classes, spin classes, yoga, pilates, group training, one-on-one personal training, sauna, steam room towel service and a juice bar. The gym would be open Monday to Friday 5:30 a.m. to11 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
