NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J. – Jordan Morang has a keen sense to take over a basketball game. He might not be on the top of every score sheet, but the Pioneer senior has been head coach Art Cattano’s anchor in big spots so far this season.

During the Pioneers dramatic come-from-behind victory over rival Jonathan Dayton, Morang scored a team-high 17 points all while leaving the game for a couple of minutes late in the fourth quarter with a gash over his right eye brow. Despite the injury, Morang returned to ice the game with a late free throw.

“I’ve had those situations and I’ve missed those,” Morang said. “Coming into this game, I knew that it was definitely going to be a very close game. I knew that if it was going to come down to me, I would be able to take the pressure and go for it and I got it.”

Because of his hard work and determination, as well as his fearless effort, The Alternative Press of New Providence is proud to announce Jordan Morang as its’ Athlete of the Week.

The two-sport athlete, who has also lettered in baseball, is a devoted basketball player that Cattano sees as a complete player, has given everything he has to the Pioneers this season.

“He’s one of our starters, a two-year starter, “Cattano said. “He’s a very good hustler, works real hard all over the place.”

Morang’s presence has been missed since the injury on Friday night. He had to have stitches inserted to heal the cut, forcing him to miss Saturday’s game against Gov. Livingston. While he wasn’t on the floor, Morang was seen on the sideline cheering and offering advice to his teammates.

While he is undetermined about which college he wants to attend next year, Morang knows where and what he wants to do in the future.

“I want to go somewhere South,” Morang said. “I want to study international affairs.”

If you want to catch Morang and the Pioneers in action, they return home next Wednesday to host David Brearley at 7 p.m.
