NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - Jillian Balog has been a scoring machine for the Lady Pioneers lacrosse team not just this season, but over the duration of her high school career.

Due to her 39 goals this spring and New Providence record 168 career tallies as a four year varsity player, The Alternative Press is pleased to announce that the Louisville-bound Jillian Balog is the New Providence Athlete of the Week.

The offensive juggernaut, who most recently scored a season-high five goals in a thrilling come from behind victory against arch-rival Gov. Livingston in the first round of the Union County tournament, is not only a star on the field, but a fantastic role model and leader as well.

“All of the senior captains try to set examples to the underclassmen and we love to have as much fun during games and practices as we can,” said Balog.  "I like to tell the girls during games that we are better than what our record shows and never to give up.”

Six one-goal losses have affected the record of this squad, but at 5-10, they have been very competitive in every game and still look to make a run at the state tournament, regardless of their record.

“As a team, we always have the goal of making it far in the state playoffs,” said Balog.  “We are growing as a team which I think is great for the future of this program.

Balog’s success on the field has been without a doubt impressive, but according to her coach, what she has done for the program as a whole has really changed New Providence girls lacrosse for the better.

“Jill has been instrumental in improving the program,” said head coach Jennifer Henry.  “She led us to three straight years with seven (plus) wins, which has only happened once in the previous six years.”

On top of those achievements, perhaps the most notable was winning the programs’ first ever conference title her junior season.

Be sure to catch Balog and the Lady Pioneers before the season comes to a close, as New Providence takes on Mount Saint Mary’s at Lieder Field on Monday.
