NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – In the history of New Providence girls’ lacrosse, only one other student athlete has scored more goals than Dominique Iacovelli.
The four-year varsity starter has scored 158 goals in her high school career and she has scored 35 goals this season, second to only Jill Balog, according to statistics on NJ.com.
“We’ve had our ups and downs this season, but as a team we’ve only grown stronger and continued improving every day,” Iacovelli said. “Playing with these girls by my side makes me a better player individually and I hope we keep up the good work.”
Due to her tremendous efforts on and off the lacrosse field, The Alternative Press of New Providence is pleased to name Dominique Iacovelli as Athlete of the Week.
“Above Lacrosse, Dominique is a great girl who is a supportive friend and has continued to mature into a confident, funny, and strong young woman,” said New Providence head coach Jennifer Henry, “ I will miss her tremendously next year and will be sad given she has been with me my entire time while coaching with New Providence Girls Lacrosse.”
Be sure to watch the New Providence Girls’ Lacrosse team and Dominique in their next game on May 12th against Mount Saint Mary’s Academy. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 PM at Lieder Field.
Editor's Note: The original article said that Iacovelli is New Providence High School's all-time leading scorer. This was inaccurate. Iacovelli is actually second, trailing only current senior Jill Balog. We apologize for this statistical error.
