NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The New Providence Alliance is hosting a presentation at 7 p.m. on Nov. 11 at the Morris Union Jointure Commission to educate the community on rising drug use.
“I have increasing concerns regarding the types of drugs we are seeing on a much more frequent basis such as heroin, molly (pure MDMA, ecstasy) and opiate use in our community,” said Deputy Police Chief Scott F. Torre.
Torre has been involved in drug education for more than 20 years and said, “In our own communities we are also seeing an uptick in use and abuse of these dangerous drugs.”
Last week, Torre attended a drug forum in Ocean County and heard their prosecutor state that they already had 96 overdose deaths this year. With three months remaining, they already passed all of 2012.
Torre said he believes it is essential for parents to come out and get the information needed to help create an open dialogue with their children and learn about these drugs.
The presentation will open with Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park followed by a panel discussion of experts on the subject of substance abuse. This is for adults only to permit a more open discussion regarding the current drug trends.
