SUMMIT, NJ -  The City of Summit has installed new payment stations in four long-term parking locations.

Replacement of the outdated technology took place over a three-week period beginning in mid-June.  The new machines were installed in the Broad Street Garage, Tier Garage, K-Lot (behind CVS) and Post Office lot.  A fifth new payment machine will be installed in the Bank Street short-term parking lot in early August.

According to Parking Services Manager Rita McNany, updating of the pay stations is the first step of a coordinated plan to replace a total of 16 pay stations and establish equipment standardization in all lots except the DeForest Avenue lots.  “It is a priority for the City to simplify the parking process in Summit,” McNany explained. “The incorporation of this new technology is the first step in that direction.”

Payment at the new parking stations can be made by credit or debit card and with cash (exact change only).  Payment with the City SmartCard will not be accepted at the new machines; however, SmartCards will still be accepted at parking meters throughout town.

Parking Services has created a ">video and guide to instruct people on how to use the new machines.
