New Jersey Youth Symphony: Season Finale of Youth Symphony with Special Guest the Ahn Trio

The Youth Symphony, the premiere orchestra of New Jersey Youth Symphony (NJYS), will present its final concert of the season at the Nicholas Music Center on the Douglass Campus of Rutgers University in New Brunswick on Friday, May 18 at 8:00 p.m. Appearing with the Youth Symphony is the Ahn Trio, the acclaimed international piano trio. Tickets are $25 and $15 for seniors and students and available at the box office, online, or by calling 908 771-5544.
The Youth Symphony consists of over 80 of the very best student musicians of NJYS who are selected through a competitive audition process at the beginning of each season. The conductor of the Youth Symphony is Maestro Jeffrey Grogan, the Artistic Director of NJYS. Concertmistress of the Youth Symphony is Lucia Nowik.
Members of the Ahn Trio include cellist Maria, pianist Lucia, and violinist Angella, all sisters originally from Seoul, Korea. The trio has been touring successfully for over ten years and has six albums to date.
The Youth Symphony and the Ahn Trio will perform the New Jersey premiere of “March of the Gypsy Fiddler” by Mark O’Connor. The Youth Symphony will also perform “Symphonic Dances” from “West Side Story” by Leonard Bernstein.
The New Jersey Youth Symphony is home to one of the foremost youth orchestras in New Jersey and draws students from around the state. NJYS provides talented young musicians with orchestral and related musical education experiences that enable them to reach their highest potential as performers and listeners. Its orchestras include the Youth Symphony, Youth Orchestra, and Philharmonia. Sinfonia, an advanced strings orchestra, the Percussion Ensemble, Flute Forum, Flute Choir, Junior Strings and Preparatory String Ensemble, and Junior Winds round out NJYS ensembles.
