New Jersey Destination Marketing Organizations Declare Post-Sandy Tourism Marketing Campaign is Vital to State’s Economy

Members of New Jersey Destination Marketing Organizations (NJDMO) are declaring their support of bills A3630 and S2435, proposed by the New Jersey Travel Industry Association (NJTIA) for an emergency supplemental allocation of $20 million to market NJ Tourism in the aftermath of hurricane Sandy. NJDMO members contend that without immediate action, the state will see significant business repercussions.
“Without this destination marketing campaign, we can expect to see millions of dollars in lost business and tax revenues in New Jersey, which equates to higher taxes for all New Jersey residents and the loss of much needed jobs,” said Lori Pepenella, NJDMO President.
In January, members of NJTIA and NJDMO organized a campaign to meet with Legislators in their home districts to gain support for the proposed bills, which would promote open and recovering New Jersey destinations to tourists.
“NJDMO wholeheartedly supports NJTIA’s campaign because immediate action is necessary to promote open and recovering destinations. If not, we believe we’ll see significant repercussions throughout the state’s tax revenues,” says NJDMO member Adam Perle of the Princeton Regional Convention & Visitor’s Bureau.
NJDMO members note that since the federal aid package was awarded to New Jersey and New York,
Governor Christie and Lieutenant Governor Guadagno have incorporated the need for an aggressive marketing campaign in their public comments.
The $38+ billion New Jersey tourism industry (New Jersey’s third largest) generates 312,000 jobs and reduces taxes by $1,400 for every household in the state. The industry also enhances infrastructure and real estate values, attracts business and diversifies the economy.
New Jersey Destination Marketing Organizations is an association of New Jersey destination marketing organizations (DMO), working together to advocate for travel and tourism funding and promotion.
