FANWOOD, NJ -- NJ Transit has added new bus route #95 (click to view schedule) in anticipation of the April closure of the northbound lanes of the Pulaski Skyway (Routes 1 & 9) for two years.
The reconstruction project begins on April 12th, and the ripple effects of the detours are expected to impact thousands of motorists who drive each day into the Jersey City/New York City area. The new bus route travels Route 22 from the Sears parking lot in Watchung to Newark Penn Station. Parking at the Sears lot is free.
The Pulaski Skyway accommodates four travel lanes, two in each direction. Southbound traffic on the Pulaski Skyway during this phase of the rehabilitation project will continue. Approximately 40,000 northbound commuters, including 9,600 in the peak morning period, will be impacted by the road work. To minimize traffic congestion during the lane closures, the NJ Department of Transportation (NJDOT) encourages motorists to become familiar with the alternate routes and public transit options.
Service enhancements on Raritan Valley Line
NJ Transit plans additional seating capacity 1,260 seats on Raritan Valley Line trains operating to Newark Penn Station during the morning peak period (6 to 10 am) and from Newark Penn Station during the evening rush (4 to 8 pm).
The NJDOT will hold a public meeting on the Pulaski Skyway project on Weds, April 2, from 5 – 7 pm at Kean University, STEM Building, 1000 Morris Ave. in Union. You can also see the new bus schedule and all detour information at www.pulaskiskyway.com.
