CHATHAM, NJ - Flashing police cars, fire engines and ice cream were the featured attractions on Tuesday night throughout Chatham Township during the 31st annual National Night Out event.

National Night Out is a community wide/nationwide event meant to promote community involvement in crime prevention, increase awareness and heighten police-community relations

Mayor Kevin Sullivan, Township Committee Member Curt Ritter and Police Chief Steven Hennelly were among the touring visitors to participating neighborhoods on Thornley Drive, Wynwood Cul-De-Sac, the Green Village Fire Department, Candace Lane and the Chatham Township Fire Department.

At Thornley Drive, police brought their flashing lights to complement a visit by the fire department. Children were given plastic fire hats and were able to board the fire engine. An ice cream truck was conveniently parked nearby.
