FANWOOD, NJ – Fanwood's Municipal Parking lot will undergo major reconstruction as part of Fanwood's downtown redevelopment plan starting in mid-August. The parking lot, which is located behind the shops on Martine Avenue, will be completely redesigned in several phases.

To complete each phase, a different portion of the parking lot will be closed during construction. The first phase involves the west entrance along LaGrande Avenue (across from McDermott Place) being closed off for demolition and site improvements like drainage. The east entrance on LaGrande Avenue (closest to the light on Martine Avenue and behind Frank's Auto) will remain open during Phase 1.

"Approximately 40 to 50 commuters who currently use this portion of the  municipal lot will be relocated during construction," said Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr. "They have been contacted by, and will work directly with, Fanwood Police Chief Richard Trigo to park on surrounding streets during this time. Any accommodations that are made on the surrounding streets will only be for those vehicles displaying their Borough issued commuter permits."

Patrons of businesses on Martine and South Avenue can still park in the Municipal lot while the lots in the South and North sides of the Fanwood Train Station will be open for free after 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

"We understand that the construction projects will cause confusion and inconvenience," Mahr said. "I am confident that when the construction is done, our downtown area will be more beautiful and user-friendly than ever before.
