WEST ORANGE, NJ - The West Orange All Stars, headed up by Mayor Rob Parisi and WOHS hockey coach Eddie Scafidi, topped the West Orange Fire Department, 8-2, in a friendly face-off on Saturday to raise funds for the West Orange Mountaintop League. More than $2,000 was raised to provide funding for MTL programs, including costs for the very successful hockey program.

Brand new to Mountain Top is the hockey program, a unisex beginner league that hopes to develop a feeder program for hockey players in West Orange. The upcoming MTL superstars had a blast skating around with all the players between periods. The kids, as well as the audience, were excited when Sparky the Fire Dog showed up to skate with them.

Brad Palent, MTL president, reported that the MTL hockey kids were thrilled to get out on the ice and skate. "They (the kids) were so excited to skate. It was a incredible night for MTL and the community." Palent said. "Everyone who came out had fun and it keeps the enthusiasm going for the new hockey program."

"The West Orange All Stars and West Orange Fire Department were great," said Palent.  "They brought so much fun into the game, and MTL can't thank the All Stars and Fire Department for their time and participation...it could not have happened without them."

As the little ones skated around Codey Arena showing that dedication and practice definitely does make perfect, the audience may very well have been looking at the next Wayne Gretzky or Jennifer Botterill.
