Mount Pleasant Middle School Technology Education Teacher Receives Honors and Award

LIVINGSTON, NJ - Aleksandr Sadiwnyk, the technology education teacher at Mount Pleasant Middle School (MPMS), has been honored for fostering technological literacy and effective STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education programs.

At the International Technology and Engineering Educators Conference (ITEEA) on March 28, Sadiwnky received the Donald Maley Spirit of Excellence Outstanding Graduate Citation award.

The MPMS teacher was nominated for his scholarship, research, and commitment to STEM. Sadiwnyk submitted multiple classroom lesson plans and materials to the ITEEA including those focused on consumer product redesign, with emphases on utilizing industry-accepted means for communicating and sharing design ideas, and human factors design considerations. 

Also included were classroom materials for use in teaching systems thinking using rocketry and flight as a platform for understanding feedback loops, controls systems, and grade level math and science concepts, such as: forces, Newtonian physics, materials properties, and the analysis and interpretation of collected data.

In addition to the Maley Spirit of Excellence award, Sadiwnyk was also chosen for the Donald Maley Graduate Future Technology and Engineering Teacher Scholarship award. 

Sadiwnyk will complete his graduate program in the spring of 2014, earning a master of education degree with a focus on technology education and a certificate in K-12 STEM education.
