Montgomery, Pierce Score in Third Period to Lift Chatham, 2-1, in Mennen Cup Semifinals

MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ - Austin Pierce scored a power-play goal at 8:58 of the third period to break a tie and lift Chatham over Kinnelon, 2-1, in the semifinal round of the Mennen Cup on Wednesday at Mennen Sports Arena.

Chatham will meet the winner of the Randolph vs. Morristown-Beard game for the Mennen Cup championship on Saturday.

John Hatch converted a pass from Julian Mazzola to give Kinnelon a 1-0 edge at 4:16 of the first period. It stayed that way until Brett Montgomery connected for his 16th goal of the season, tying it for the Cougars at 3:45 of the third period.

Montgomery's goal was set up by Teddy Simson and Bryn Casey. A hooking penalty then preceded the power-play goal by Pierce. Simson picked up his second assist of the game on the winning goal.

David Neu made 34 saves for Kinnelon. C.J. Albanese finished with 26  saves for Chatham.
