Montclair Police Arrest One in Stolen Vehicle Incident, Another Suspect Sought

MONTCLAIR, NJ - Montclair Police Department have reported that Montclair Police officers were dispatched to the area of Chestnut and Park Street at approximately 8:00 p.m. Friday on a report of a stolen vehicle. The caller informed police that as he was driving home, he observed his own second vehicle, a Dodge Journey, traveling south on Valley Road near Starbucks, with two African-American occupants.
The man called the Police Department and informed them that his second vehicle may have been stolen from his residence.
Police observed the Dodge Journey turning north on Park Street from Chestnut Street and attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop. The Dodge pulled over and the two juvenile occupants jumped out of the vehicle and ran. One was apprehended and immediately taken into custody; the second ran onto the railroad tracks in the area of Essex Way.
Trains were stopped for approximately a half hour while a search was conducted with an Essex County Sheriff’s K9 unit without success.
The juvenile has been identified and a warrant will be issued for his arrest.
