NEWARK, NJ - Millburn Public Works Department employee Anthony P. Boffa, 44, of Springfield, has been arrested and charged with theft, according to Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray.
Boffa is accused of purchasing landscaping products through the Township and then giving the products to a private landscaper to repay a personal debt. The products, with an approximate value of $1,800, included 85 bags of fertilizer and 112 bags of limestone.
“Any violation of the public trust will be rigorously prosecuted,” said Prosecutor Murray. She has commended the Millburn Police Department and detectives of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, who had been performing a joint investigation.
Boffa has been employed by Millburn Township for 25 years, most recently as a foreman. He is scheduled to appear in Essex County Superior Court on March 8.
