Millburn Kiwanis Club to Receive Charter on Thursday

Monday, September 23, 2013 • 9:47am

MILLBURN, NJ - On Thursday, September 26, the new Millburn Kiwanis Club will accept its charter at a presentation ceremony that will take place at Gian Marco Trattoria at 7:00 PM.  The occasion will recognize the formation of the new Kiwanis club, welcome its members, and also to thank their sponsors, the Livingston Kiwanis Club, and the Millburn Key Club for the efforts. The ceremony will be attended by the Kiwanis International President, Thomas DeJulio.

The Millburn High School Key Club started on March 18 on a successful path to create a new Kiwanis Club to carry out a mission, “Changing the world, one child and one community at a time.”  A few years ago, the local Kiwanis Club, which had served Millburn, Short Hills and Springfield for more than 60 years, returned its charter and disbanded.

Locally, Kiwanis Clubs sponsor youth leadership and community service organizations such as the high school's Key Club. Worldwide, they do much more. Kiwanis and UNICEF worked together for a campaign that successfully ended Iodine Deficiency Disease in the world. Now they are working on the Eliminate Project, to end Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus.

Despite their global goals, Kiwanis Clubs primarily put their time and effort into local projects. They were among the first to provide support during Hurricane Sandy, by checking on people’s welfare (particularly the elderly), distributing portable water, and making sure people had enough food and blankets.
