MILLBURN, NJ - Members of the Millburn High School Key Club gathered at the local public library on Saturday to spend time with and entertain young kids through a variety of activities, including storytelling and puppet shows. The weekly event, titled “Read and Lead,” occurs on Saturdays from 3 to 4 p.m.

This week, students used hand puppets of a fox, a raccoon, a turtle, and Clifford the Big Red Dog to share stories of friendship. Later, they also read from various children’s books and encouraged kids to interact with the characters with their own puppets, resulting in smiles and laughter all around.

"Read and Lead" provides great fun for both the readers and the young audiences alike.

Dolly Ravishankar, a high school senior, and Tarangini Mull, a Millburn sophomore who attended the event for the first time Saturday, both say they had an incredible time and especially enjoyed seeing the reactions of the children.

“I love Read and Lead, and I love the kids,” said Ravishankar.

Tarangini added, "It was great seeing the children laugh.”

Cousins Leah McKenna, 4, and Aiden McKenna, also 4, enjoyed the experience. When asked if she preferred the stories or the puppets, Leah replied with a bright smile, “I like the stories.” Aiden nodded his head in agreement.

Kayla Chin, 4, was very enthusiastic about the event. When asked if she enjoyed the stories and would like to come back again, she jumped up and down and said, “Yes, yes, yes, yes!”

All kids and parents are welcome at Read and Lead: simply head to the Millburn Public Library, located on 200 Glen Ave., any Saturday afternoon.
