MILLBURN, NJ - Millburn High School’s varsity football team was soundly defeated by Orange High School on Friday night, 33-19.
Orange had many spectacular gains from their players, which fueled their triumph over Millburn (1-3). Rasheed Williams had two rushing touchdowns including a stellar 31-yard run in the third quarter. Other contributors include Raheem Coleman who had a 45 yard touchdown run in the first quarter and D'andre Smith who had a 26 yard touchdown run in the third quarter to seal the deal for Orange.
Millburn’s Zack Weinstein had a fantastic game for the Millers despite the loss. Weinstein shared time at quarterback with Jared Harris on Friday. Weinstein had several impactful plays for the Millers, in which he accumulated three touchdown scores. Weinstein tallied the Miller’s first score in the first quarter when he had a 41-yard touchdown run to make the score 14-7. Other valiant efforts from the sophomore star came in the fourth quarter when the Millers attempted to recover from their large deficit. In the fourth quarter Weinstein had two 70- yard-plus touchdown runs. Unfortunately for Millburn, Weinstein’s gallant efforts were not enough.
At the half of this Super Essex Conference-Liberty Division game, the difference was already 14 points in Orange’s favor as the score was 21-7. Millburn was able to match their opponents' efforts in the second half, but Orange went on to defeat Millburn by that same 14-point margin. After the victory Orange advanced to 2-3 on the year.
The Millers' thoughts are already on next week’s game against West Essex. Running back, Jake Solomon said, “"We look forward to recovering from a rough game and putting our focus on West Essex. It's going to be a long week of preparation but that's what is necessary to compete against a talented team like West Essex.”
Next Friday, Orange will play Irvington at home under the lights. The Millers will host West Essex in the annual “Pink-Out” game next Friday night. Millburn hopes to send West Essex their first loss of the year.
