Millburn High School Band Concert Wednesday May 21

MILLBURN, NJ - The Music Department of Millburn High School proudly presents the annual Spring Band Concert on Wednesday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. This concert is free and open to the public. Ensembles are under the direction of Ms. Mindy Scheierman, Director of Bands and Mr. Matthew Spatz, Associate Director of Bands.

This year's Artist-in-Residence, Dr. Andrew Boysen, Jr., Director of Bands at the University of New Hampshire, will spend a two-day residency at the high school and conduct his works with each ensemble at the concert. Dr. Boysen received the Doctoral of Musical Arts degree from the Eastman School of Music and is highly sought after internationally as a guest conductor, composer, and clinician. His visit to Millburn is sponsored by the MHS PTO and Music Boosters organizations.

The Freshman Concert band will open the concert and perform Dr. Boysen's Tricycle and works by Pierre La Plante and Julius Fucik. Wind Ensemble, an advanced ensemble of accelerated level band students in grades nine through twelve, will feature Dr. Boysen's I Am and conclude the first half of the concert with selections from Tielman Susato's The Danserye. Symphonic Bands Blue and White, comprised of students in grades ten, eleven, and twelve, will perform on the second half of the concert with works by Dr. Boysen. Steven Reineke, Brian Balmages, Jacques Offenbach, and Henry Fillmore.

All senior band members will be recognized at this concert for their vast contributions to the music department. The MHS Music Boosters will be selling refreshments and accepting donations and memberships throughout the evening.
