MILLBURN, NJ - Millburn’s varsity soccer goalie Marc Langendorff is credited with being one of the best goalies in the state and hopes to repeat last year’s success in which he led the Millers to both a county and state championship Langendorff has has helped the Millburn Millers varsity soccer team in many aspects including skill, leadership, and reliability. Langendorff had 91 saves last season and 75 saves so far this season. An impressive showing for Langendorff came against Seton Hall Prep in the Essex County tournament, where the senior had 10 saves. Marc has had six shutouts this season and hopes to continue that trend in the post-season.
Langendorff is very humble about his abilities and credits his teammates for their continued success. He is confident in the team as they approach the state tournament.
“I have immense trust in my teammates that they will make the plays to help us win,” Langendorff said. He further substantiates this claim by noting, “I do very little per game and without my defense in front of me, I would look a whole lot worse. All of the credit really needs to go to those guys.”
The superstar goalie led the Millers to a state and county championship last season and hopes to obtain similar success this year. Langendorff hopes to, “be regarded as one of the top teams in the state.” He is very confident in the Millers' ability and said, “We set very high expectations for ourselves and have felt since day one that we can go as far as we want to go. We know we have the individual skills, all it comes down to is how bad we want it as a unit.”
Marc has college potential and has options going into next season after a stellar high school career. He also recognizes the bond that he has shared with his fellow teammates over the years.
“High School soccer will always be a memorable experience that I will have with me for the rest of my life," he said. "Winning states and counties last year is something I will always have with me, but more importantly the friendships that I have made with my teammates is something I will always cherish more than any accolade or championship that I win.”
Langendorff has a strong confidence in his soccer abilities. When asked if he thinks he is a top goalie in the state, Langendorff responded, “I am definitely very confident in myself and feel that I have worked very hard to get where I am today. However, with that being said there are so many amazing goalies in NJ. Let alone in our conference there are extremely high-level goalies that I have grown up competing with and even playing with. I do not like to compare myself to other goalies in the state and rather worry about just trying to be the best that I could possibly be.”
Langendorff and the Millers are vying for a state title this season and though Langendorff may be vey humble it is hard to forget about the Millburn goalie’s skill set and positive attributes. Langendorff said, “I think that my hands are my best attribute about my game. I have always trusted that if I put myself in a position to make a play that my hands would do the easy work. I also have always played soccer fearlessly and that helps me in nerve racking situations and making a tough play.”
The Millers hope to find more success this post-season, a feat made possible in part due to Marc Langendorff’s leadership on and off the field.
