Millburn Mayor Sandra Haimoff has issued a proclamation declaring May 2013 as Preeclampsia Awareness Month.
"May is National Preeclampsia Awareness Month, deliberately chosen to coincide with Mother's Day," explained Executive Director of the Preeclampsia Foundation Eleni Tsigas. "Almost 300,000 women each year are affected by preeclampsia, with approximately 25 percent of those resulting in serious adverse outcomes to mother, baby, or both."
This year's Cranford area Promise Walk will be held on Sunday, May 19 at Oak Ridge Park in Clark. As this year's face of preeclampsia (a life threatening disorder of pregnancy) for the walk, Larry Bloomstein (of Brielle; formerly of Livingston) and his infant daughter will share their story and help encourage teams around the state to meet or exceed their fundraising goal. The 3rd annual Cranford area walk is organized by mother-daughter walk coordinator team Stephanie and Marissa Steiner (from Springfield), both preeclampsia survivors. This year's walk has already raised over $14,000.
