Middletown South Boys Basketball Holds on to Defeat South Plainfield 43-41

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The Middletown South Eagles used strong defense and received two clutch free throws in the final 21seconds of the game to defeat the South Plainfield Tigers 43-41 in the first day’s action of the Anthony J. Cotoia Holiday Tournament.
Miiddletown South never trailed in the game, and built a lead of nine points in the defensive struggle, before South Plainfield tied the game twice in the final two minutes.
Middletown South’s Dan Roibal led all scorers with 13 points. It would be the Eagles’ Nick Wiley’s two free throws that broke a 41-41 tie with 21 seconds left in the game to give Middletown South the victory.
South Plainfield’s Roemello Monroe led all South Plainfield scorers with 11 points. The Tigers would inbound the ball in the final 2.8 seconds in an attempt to win or tie the game. South Plainfield’s Jordan Hankerson’s three point shot, for the win, would rattle out of the basket as time expired.
