EDISON, NJ – Middlesex County Academy in Edison has ranked #4 in New Jersey and #107 in the nation according to U.S. News & World Report’s National Rankings Best High Schools.

The Middlesex County Academy for Science, Mathematics and Engineering Technologies in Edison received a gold medal for the second consecutive year. Last year, the Edison Academy ranked #6 in New Jersey and #146 in the nation.

“This is another great day for the Academy,” said Edison Academy Principal Linda Russo. “Receiving the Gold Medal for the second year in a row and moving up the ranks from sixth in the state to fourth is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of the students and staff. None of this would be possible without the support of our board of education and our county freeholders.”

The U.S. News rankings include data on more than 19,400 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. Schools were awarded gold, silver or bronze medals based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college. The schools were ranked using results of state assessment proficiency tests and Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate tests. U.S. News gave each eligible school a College Readiness Index score, and then numerically ranked and awarded gold, silver and bronze medals. This year 500 high schools earned gold medals. Edison Academy scored 100 percent proficiency on state assessment tests in math and language arts.

Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement course work and exams. The AP participation rate at Middlesex County Academy is 77 percent. The student body makeup is 60 percent male and 40 percent female, and the total minority enrollment is 61 percent. Middlesex County Academy is 1 of 7 high schools in the Middlesex County Vocation.

There are numerous New Jersey schools in the 2014 U.S. News Best High Schools rankings, including 25 with gold medals, 19 with silver medals and 32 with bronze medals.
