Mid-Atlantic Indoor Competition at West Orange High School Wows Crowd
Sunday, January 20, 2013 • 10:31pm
WEST ORANGE, NJ - Twenty-five Winter Color Guard Teams from New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut competed in the Mid-Atlantic Indoor Competition (MAIN) at West Orange High School on Saturday, Jan. 19.
The West Orange High School Winter Color Guard dazzled the crowd with a flawless performance of their routine, choreographed to "Bridge Over Troubled Water," employing flags, sabers and rifles. Because West Orange hosted the event, their performance was exhibition only. However, their score was 12 points above the winner.
Following the WOHS Color Guard's performance, the West Orange High School Indoor Drumline and Percussion Team performed a unique routine with percussion instruments like xylophones, drums, bells, and marimbas.
The event began at 4 p.m. and ended at 9:30 p.m. An appreciative and enthusiastic audience greeted each group's performance. Band Director Lew Kelly served as announcer, and Erin McClure, music teacher, along with the West Orange High School Music Boosters Organization, plus a large group of high school volunteers, helped to sell tickets, provide food and snacks, organize and assist in the proceedings.
