RANDOLPH, NJ – Two Randolph High School students were killed in a single-car accident on Ironia Road Saturday afternoon. Earlier reports have been further confirmed and some updated information has been released.

Jack Timmerman and Calvin Verduga, who were soon to be Randolph High School seniors, were riding in the backseat of a friend's Mustang convertable when it ran off the road, killing them both.

The boys were spending their summer preparing for the high school football season. They had hoped to start for the Rams this fall.

They had been lifting weights at Chizel in Randolph, a gym owned by the Timmerman family. The boys were picked up by two friends in a new car, which one of the boys had just received for his birthday, according to reports.

The car was moving down Ironia Road at around 1:35 p.m. on Saturday when it failed to negotiate a turn. Having lost control, it headed off the right side of the road. The car ran over a street sign and hit a tree.

At a memorial set up at the crash site Sunday afternoon, friends and family remembered Timmerman and Verduga by erecting a white cross, and leaving flowers and candles at the base.  Those who knew them best brought items of significance, and wrote messages on the cross and on T-shirts they left at the site.  Others came with heavy hearts to pay their respects and support the families.

Randolph Superintendent of Schools David Browne issued a statement, and offered counseling to students and school employees at RHS Sunday and Monday.  Click Here for further information.

The investigation will continue by the Morris County Prosecutor’s office.

On Monday night at St. Matthew’s Church in Randolph (Dover Chester), a more formal memorial will be held. It will begin at 7:00 p.m. and it is open to anyone who would like to attend.

TAP into Randolph will release further information as it becomes available.
