WESTFIELD, NJ—Two members of the Westfield Police Department were sworn in at the Westfield town council meeting October 9—Captain Scott Rodger and Officer John Swiderski.

“I knew he would be a perfect fit,” said Chief David Wayman of Swiderski, who was sworn in first. “I would like to welcome John personally into what I consider the most honorable profession in the world.” Swiderski has been with the department since July.

Of Rodger, who became captain over the summer, Wayman said, “He works tirelessly for the progression of the police department.” He noted that Rodger was the top ranking graduate in his class at the police academy years ago. “I want to thank him for his work,” Wayman added.

Wayman himself is a recent graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA, where he spent most of the summer training both physically and mentally.

“I’d like to say thank you so much to our chief,” said Councilwoman Jo Ann Neylan, who was acting as mayor that evening. (Mayor Andy Skibitsky was returning from a business trip that day and was unable to attend due to unexpected traffic.) She added, “I feel very safe in your hands.”
