EAST ORANGE, NJ - Mayor Lester E. Taylor III today announced the formation of the Mayor’s Quality of Life Task Force, an interdepartmental initiative charged with enhancing the health, safety and well-being of East Orange citizens.

The Task Force will seek to address a range of issues that affect the quality of life in the city, including housing and business code compliance, maintenance of abandoned properties and overall city cleanliness. Additionally, the Task Force will be coordinating with business owners and landlords to revitalize the city’s economic corridors.

“We are going to be aggressive when it comes to raising the standard of living in our city,” Taylor said. “For many of these issues, the scope extends beyond just one department. By working cooperatively and building a strong presence in the community, our Task Force will leverage the expertise of each department to address these quality of life concerns, which are often at the top of the list when we hear from our citizens.”

The Mayor’s Quality of Life Task Force is composed of representatives from the Mayor’s Office as well as the departments of Policy, Planning and Development, Property Maintenance, Public Works, Health & Human Services, Fire and Police. The Task Force will meet regularly with residents, landlords and business owners to share ideas and exchange information in order to achieve its mission.

“Our team is committed to working directly with our constituents in order to make East Orange the best city it can be,” Taylor said. “We want to let our citizens know that we are going to be proactive and attentive to detail in order to provide a safe, attractive and healthy environment for all our families to live, work and play.”

Residents may contact the Mayor’s Office of Constituent Services with any quality of life concerns. East Orange residents may call (973) 266-5151 or visit www.eastorange-nj.gov and click on “Constituent Services” in the upper right-hand corner.
