SUMMIT, NJ - The City of Summit has announced more than 20 community events as part of the 16th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on Monday, January 20.
“This is an opportunity to step up and make a difference in your community,” explains Summit Mayor Ellen Dickson. “Your involvement has a positive effect, whether you donate supplies, volunteer to do some cleanup work, donate blood or feed the homeless. When neighbors come together to give just a few hours of their time to improve our community, it has significant impact.”
The Mayor is inviting individuals, non-profit and service organizations, and community groups to sign up to participate. Activities will be held at various locations throughout Summit; many organizations are still accepting donations and volunteers.
“Many residents have already volunteered, but more are welcome, and businesses are also being invited to donate supplies to established service projects,” Dickson continues. “There is a full day of activities being planned for all ages and abilities.”
The Annual MLK Day of Service is made possible through the generosity of sponsors of Shaping Summit Together, a 501(c)3 organization consisting of community agencies, individuals, houses of worship and not-for-profits dedicated to ensuring that Summit stakeholders work together to help Summit reach its full potential as a mature, diverse, suburban community.
