MAPLEWOOD, NJ – Many shopkeepers on Springfield Avenue participated in the first ever "Merchant Mingle," which was coordinated by the Springfield Avenue Partnership (SAP) and hosted by Incpics Studios.
“The size of the Springfield Avenue business district prevents many merchants from ever meeting, thus preventing an information exchange which is beneficial to any commercial district,” said Julie Doran, Director of the Springfield Avenue Partnership. “Last night's event was one step toward addressing that issue.”
The event was well attended by Springfield Avenue merchants, nearby residents and members of the Township government, including Maplewood Mayor Victor DeLuca and Township Administrator Joseph Manning, South Orange Village President Alex Torpey and members of the SAP Board of Trustees.
The Mingle enabled local merchants together in an informal setting, to get to know each other as well as the new managers of the SAP, Julie Doran and Deb Yohannan. More than just a social gathering, merchants exchanged ideas on how to promote the Springfield Avenue district and spur economic development.
“Some merchants met for the first time, others we able to catch up. Ideas were exchanged and networks established,” Doran said. “We hope to hold one every quarter in a different location on the Avenue and we thank everyone who took the time to stop by and say hello.”
Incpics Studios proved to be an excellent venue to hold the event, and the space is available for rent for a wide variety of uses. Sandwiches were provided by the Parkwood Diner, wine came from The Liquor Cabinet and plates, cups and napkins were provided by Deals.
