MAPLEWOOD, NJ - The township has released a customized mobile app for township residents that may be downloaded on Apple and Android devices.
“In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, a lot of people lost their power and could not get information using their laptop computers or desktop computers. Smartphones were a way in which people could, theoretically anyway, get that information, but we did not have a smartphone app,” Committeeman Marlon Brownlee said at Tuesday’s Township Committee Meeting. “We recognize the need to communicate in as many ways as possible.”
The township contracted the services of CivicPlus to develop the custom app as a way to improve communication with residents. The app is already available for download, free of charge, in the iTunes store and Google marketplace. To find it, search for “Maplewood NJ” in the Apple App Store or Google Apps Marketplace.
The Mobile App offers all of the content posted on the village website. Residents may access Township news, alerts, event information, and make reservation requests for fields in the parks, submit service requests, and review information pertaining to Township facilities including hours of operation, contact information and directions.
Brownlee thanked Assistant Administrator Cesar Correa “for doing all the research and bringing this project to fruition.”
