Maplewood Ideas Festival Has Begun

MAPLEWOOD, NJ – The Maplewood Ideas Festival has begun at the Maplewood Memorial Library and will run through April 12. Here is the lineup of special events:

Filmmakers Panel: Wednesday, April 2 at 7 p.m. Alex Gibney: Academy Award-winning producer/director; AND Jennie Amias & Susan Motamed: accomplished filmmakers.

David Brancaccio: Thursday, April 3 at 7 p.m. Award-winning TV and radio journalist and host of Marketplace Morning Report on NPR.  “A Tale of Three Cities: Lessons from Main Street America in Making a Better Local Economy.”

Judith Viorst: Saturday, April 5 at 2 p.m. Maplewood native, legendary author of children’s picture books, adult fiction and nonfiction, poetry and musicals.  “Loves and Longings and Wicked Thoughts: The Shared Experiences of Children and Adults.”  Following Ms. Viorst’s talk, she will be presented with the First Annual Maplewood Literary Award.  A reception with refreshments will follow.

Dan Barry: Monday, April 7 at 7 p.m.  New York Times Journalist and award-winning Author of “Bottom of the 33rd: Hope, Redemption, and Baseball’s Longest Game.”  A conversation about the allure of the game, and the effect its unexpected twists can have on the players and on us.

Laurie Keller Thursday, April 10 at 7 p.m.  An evening with the author and illustrator of many beloved children’s picture books.

Art & Music Reception: Saturday, April 12 at 1 p.m.  A reception to celebrate our April exhibit of artwork by Nette Forne Thomas.  Live music will be provided. Artist’s talk at 1:30. Refreshments will be served.

[words] bookstore will offer copies of Ideas Festival authors’ books for sale at each event.
