PATERSON, NJ - A 40-year-old Paterson man was slashed during a robbery on Carroll Street outside School 6 early Tuesday morning, just five hours before Gov. Chris Christie came to the street for a visit, police said.

The victim told authorities he was walking down the street at about 6:20 am when someone grabbed him from behind, took the cash from his pockets and slashed him. The suspect fled east on Fair Street, police said.

Police said the victim was treated for a three-inch laceration on his foreman at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center.
