Man Hiding in Tree Turns Out to Be Suspect in South Orange Burglary

A roundup of SOPD activity: Police arrested a suspect in connection with a Dec. 8 burglary after a Village Road resident called police to report a man hiding in a tree near his home.
William Dockery Jr., 22, of Orange, was arrested Jan. 6 at approximately 12:30 a.m. when officers caught him trying to flee through backyards. The burglary charge stems from an incident on Tichenor Avenue.
Police also arrested two men on Jan. 3 after they signed for a UPS package, claiming it was theirs. Louis Vasquez, 38, of Bronx, N.Y., and Yakhya Diarra, 36, also of Bronx, N.Y., were stopped in their vehicle on First Street. Police are investigating whether they are involved in fraudulent activity involving identity theft.
In other police news:
A Seton Hall University bookstore employee told police a man stole a black Jansport backpack from the bookstore on Jan. 4 at approximately 4:15 p.m. The man fled from campus toward South Orange Avenue.
Thieves targeted items in two vehicles. A GPS and $25 in cash were stolen from a vehicle parked at First and Academy Streets on Dec. 30. A handicap placard was stolen from a vehicle belonging to a Grove Road resident sometime between Dec. 17 and Jan. 2.
- Packages containing Ugg slippers and Ugg boots were stolen from the front porch of a Waverly Place resident sometime between Dec. 20 and Dec. 24.
