Man Charged With Impersonating Police Officer in South Orange

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – Officers arrested a Newark man who they said was pretending to be a Newark police officer..

Davon Gordon, 32, of Newark, was arrested when police responded to a disturbance call on the corner of College Place and Irvington Avenue at approximately 11 a.m. on Feb. 5. During the investigation, officers determined that Gordon had been passing himself off as a Newark police officer and arrested him without incident.

In a separate incident, one person was arrested on charges of receiving stolen property.

Joshua Silver, 39, of Jersey City, was arrested shortly before 3 p.m. on Feb. 2 when he was spotted riding a bike that had been reported stolen earlier in the week.  The owner of the bike positively identified it, and Silver was arrested without incident.

In other police news:

  • An Academy Street resident told police that someone stole the front license plate from her vehicle while it was parked on the street sometime during the last month.
  • A Warwick Avenue resident reported that someone damaged the driver’s side door handle of his 2007 BMW while it was parked at Mountain Station sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Feb. 4.  The suspect did not gain entry to the vehicle.
  • A Franklin Place resident stated that someone stole some luggage from the side of her house between 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. on Feb. 4. The victim returned home from the airport and briefly left her bags unattended while she went inside. When she returned, they were missing.
