LIVINGSTON, NJ – On Monday afternoon, police chased down and arrested Sean Morris, 28, of New York City when he fled Capital One Bank on foot, after attempting to steal $6,500 from an account.
Morris was charged with criminal attempt of theft by deception, forgery, falsifying or tampering with records, fraudulent use of a credit card, assault on law enforcement and resisting arrest.
According To Livingston Police Chief Sgt. Anthony Dippold, Morris entered the bank with a stolen account number and the full name of the customer attached to the account number, as well as a corresponding fake driver’s license and credit card.
When Morris forged the customer’s signature, a bank personal noticed a difference between the signature Morris had written on the withdrawal slip and the one the bank had on record. At roughly 1:40 p.m., the bank contacted the police.
Just as Morris was attempting to flee, a Livingston Detective arrived at the scene. Police say, Morris was chased around much of North Hill Center and was eventually cornered in the neighboring Shoprite parking lot, where he was eventually subdued and pepper sprayed.
The Livingston Municipal Court set Morris’s bail at $7,500, which he was unable to post. In addition, Livingston police have learned, Morris is wanted out of NYC for a violation of parole. He is currently being held at Essex County Jail.
The Livingston Police are also looking to arrest two men who stole an estimated $800 from Zumiez of the Livingston Mall, on Saturday, March, 22, at 7 p.m.
According to a report, two males walked up to a Zumiez register to purchase an item. When the cashier opened his draw to make change, the first male reportedly “distracted” the cashier, making him momentarily turn away from his draw. The second subject then reached into the draw and stole what Zumiez personal estimate at $800 in cash.
The cashier pursued the two assailants out of Zumiez to the upper level of the mall by the food courts, where he engaged one subject in a brief struggle. The subject, however, broke free and both men escaped.
The first subject was described as a black male, approximately 6’2” in height, with black hair, wearing a shirt with neon green writing on it. The second subject was described as a black male 5’5” in height, with gray and black hair, wearing a white long sleeve shirt and blue jeans.
No arrests have been made at this time.
