Making a Difference

Today I am grateful for making a difference. I think it is something many people want to do. I wondered if I’d ever be successful at it. . .and how.
I try to set an example by being kind, patient and empathetic. Some days that works, some days not so much. Have you driven in the rain behind a four foot tall, 90 year old woman who should be driving a mini-Cooper, yet she’s in a huge pick-up truck and doesn’t believe it fits on the road so she swerves all over the yellow line, nearly goes into a ditch and literally stops whenever there is an oncoming car? Stops. In the middle of the road. My kindness flies out the window along with my blue language.
I know I can make a difference without being grandiose. Even with my gratitude posts. Everyone is different, so what I write one day might speak to you profoundly, while someone else is hitting delete before they get done reading the first sentence. Or they might look at the picture, make an assumption, roll their eyes and get a cup of coffee. I’m okay with that. Some days I’d like to delete myself. Especially my hips. Ha ha.
I fret over whether a topic is lame or boring. Some are. But if it won’t shut up and keeps bugging me, I post it anyway. Every time I fret the most, I’ll hear from someone who has been deeply touched. Every time. At least one person. Wow! That’s enough. One person affected enough to share works for me! Just think, at that rate in a year I’ll have made a difference to 365 people. It isn’t the entire world, but it’s a start. One person at a time. I’ll take that! Drum roll, please.
I had to get over the fact that I’m not making an income, that I’m giving my writing away. It wasn’t easy. I don’t get paid in dollars, yet I am abundantly wealthy beyond my wildest dreams. So today I am grateful I can make a difference. I’m encouraged to continue. My way is to write and post something I’m grateful for each day. What about you? What’s your way?
Each and every day I find something to be grateful for. My gratitude's are heartfelt, personal, moving and often humorous. Facebook followers have encouraged me to branch out. I hope you will relate.
