WEST ORANGE, NJ - The green line has been painted, the banners are going up, and Main Street is readying for its biggest day of the year as the 63rd Annual West Orange St. Patrick's Day Parade Step Off begins on Sunday, March 16, at 12:15 pm at the intersection of Main Street and Mt. Pleasant Avenue.

Get ready for the bagpipers, marching bands, dancers and dignitaries as they take the walk down Main Street towards Our Lady of Lourdes. One of the most anticipated local parades in Essex County, if not the state of New Jersey, the West Orange St. Patrick's Day Parade has its roots in the Irish families that settled and raised their children in the West Orange area. Many of those children, and their children's children, still live in West Orange and nearby towns and continue to work to make the parade a source of pride for not only the Irish American Community, but the entire West Orange Community as well.

In addition to the parade, a morning mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes beginning at 9:30 am. All are welcome to join in a time of reflection, meditation, and faith. The Honorees, Parade Committee, the Frank O’Hara Association and the Irish American Society members and their families traditionally attend the service before the start of the parade.

There is absolutely no parking along Main Street from 8am - 3pm, and check the side roads for "no parking" signs. Main Street closes to traffic at 11 am. Eagle Rock Avenue will be closed at the reservation at 11 am as well.

Prepare to dress warmly - break out all those green knit caps and scarves, Irish cable knit sweaters, and coats. It's supposed to be sunny, but cold, on Sunday, with a high of 34 degrees.

The parade usually concludes by 2:00 as paradegoers go off to celebrate the day with family and friends; eat corned beef and cabbage; and, of course, drink beer. Everyone seems to be a wee bit Irish around St. Patrick's Day.
